A MAC address is a serial number given to each ethernet adapter. This serial number for physical cards is usually set by the manufacturer. The address is composed of six 2 character fields separated by colons or dashes. Each character is a hexadecimal digit.

If you are submitting your MAC address to get access to the wireless or masqueraded network in the department ensure that you submit the correct address for the form you are using.

• Go Start->Run, winipcfg, OK.
• This will open a window that will let you select each of the system's ethernet adapter and see their properties.
• Your MAC address is represented by the Address field.

• Go Start->Run, cmd, OK to open a cmd prompt.
• Type ipconfig /all
• Your MAC address is represented by the Physical Address field.

• Run /sbin/ifconfig -a
• You MAC address is in the field Ethernet HWaddr.

• Run /usr/sbin/ifconfig -a
• You MAC address is in the field ether.

• Click the apple on the top left of the screen.
