The Software Engineering Research Lab (SERL) investigates tools, methods, theories and techniques to support the development of software. At present, our active areas of focus are:
- application frameworks
- software reverse engineering, reengineering and reuse
- software engineering for web-based applications
- software processes for small organizations
We believe that one cannot do teaching or research in software engineering without practicing it. Thus SERL has industrial partners. In May 1998 we formed Avra Software Lab Inc. to foster industry relationships with the Software Engineering Research Lab in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta.
